According to the World Health Organization, the main determinants of health include the social and financial setting, the physical environment and the individual’s individual characteristics and behaviors. Since the late Nineteen Seventies, the federal Healthy People Initiative has been a visual component of the United States’ strategy to improving population health. Progress has been limited to many goals, leading to concerns about the effectiveness of Healthy People in shaping outcomes in the context of a decentralized and uncoordinated US health system.
